The New Year is a great time for reflection and goal setting. Like a lot of people, your goal may involve better weight management or some other fitness target, but an oft-missed key to success is post-exercise recovery. Exercise has so many benefits, but you may miss out on them without recovering properly! It’s critical to nourish yourself before and after exercise, so you not only have the fuel to push yourself during exertion, but also have the nutritional building blocks that your body needs to heal itself afterwards. Both are essential to getting stronger, healthier, and more fit! This issue we share some of our favorite advice that includes examples of active recovery (gentle, low-intensity exercise following strenuous activity), passive recovery (a period of inactive rest), and ways to properly hydrate and nourish yourself. (My personal favorite is a post-workout protein shake!) Whatever your goals this year, I hope you find some recovery methods that work for you and support you on your wellness journey! Whatever the question, nutrition is usually at least part of the answer. Eat Well!
